Overview

Joel serves on Pierce Jewett’s labor and employment team, where he represents both individuals and businesses in workplace issues of all kinds, including civil rights litigation, whistleblower retaliation claims, wage and hour issues, and contract disputes, among others. Joel has litigated extensively in civil and administrative forums and has secured many favorable outcomes for his clients.

Joel graduated summa cum laude from the University of Richmond School of Law, where he was selected as a member of the McNeill Law Society and the Order of the Coif. Joel also has professional degrees in both finance and theatre. Before his career as an attorney, Joel worked in the litigation finance industry and even spent time as a professional actor. Joel’s diverse professional experience with both the analytical and the artistic has equipped him with a well-rounded skillset to navigate challenging problems for his clients.

Joel and his wife live in Richmond’s historic Fan district. When he is not practicing law, Joel can often be found performing onstage throughout the metro-Richmond region where he has worked with five different theatre companies. Whether onstage or in the courtroom, Joel tries his best to live by the words of William Shakespeare, who suggests that we all “do as adversaries do in law: Strive mightily, but eat and drink as friends.”
